How often should you have a dental checkup?

Regular visits are one of the simplest ways to protect your smile before small issues become complicated.

Dental checkup

There is no single schedule that fits every patient, but most people benefit from a checkup every six to twelve months. Your dentist may recommend more frequent visits if you have gum disease, a history of cavities, orthodontic treatment, or a medical condition that affects your oral health.

A checkup is more than a clean

A thorough appointment includes an assessment of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw, and any changes in your mouth. Digital imaging may be recommended when it helps us see areas that are not visible during a clinical examination.

These regular touchpoints help us notice early signs of decay, gum inflammation, wear, grinding, or changes in existing restorations. Early treatment is usually simpler, more comfortable, and more predictable.

Your ideal rhythm is personal

The best schedule is the one based on your risk, habits, and health history. Ask your dentist to explain why they recommend a particular interval and what you can do between visits.
